Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cape Verde under-21 handball team left this Sunday, July 2nd, for Gothenburg, Sweden, to participate in the 52nd edition of the Partille Cup, which runs from the 3rd to the 8th of this month, involving 500 athletes (under 10 to under 21), from 50 countries.
The Partille Cup’2023 takes place in Gothenburg, and Cape Verde wants to take advantage of its presence at this handball sporting event to improve the athletes’ performances and give them the opportunity to compete at an international level, as well as show the work they have done in national sport, particularly in handball.
This participation is being seen by Cape Verdean sports leaders as an opportunity to promote the country, among a large community in Sweden, more precisely in the city of Gothenburg.
The event, according to the National Federation of the sport, is known “for bringing together some of the most promising talents in world handball, providing an atmosphere of high competition and learning”.
National team made up mostly of under-19 players
At the invitation of the organizing committee, Cape Verde participates with a delegation of 18 people, 14 athletes, two coaches, a physiotherapist and a head of mission (IDJ technician).
The Cape Verde coach for this category, Flávio Lima, bet on a national team made up mostly of under-19 players.
Before the match, the Creole delegation received a visit from the directors of the Institute of Sports and Youth, led by the sports administrator, Graciano Sena, who augured success for the athletes in this competition that has been taking place since 1970.
“The message is for them to represent our country, respecting our history, above all, the values of Cape Verde, complying with the rules and values of sport, because they have enough talent to compete at that level”, said the official.
