Heidilene Oliveira Lopes and her guide, Jailson Oliveira , won bronze medals in the 100-meter race, silver in the 200-meter race, and gold in the 400-meter race, for the Visually Impaired Class T12, in the Athletics competition Grand Prix Series 2022, which takes place in Tunisia, until this Thursday, 30.

Fruit of independent Cape Verde, the 30-year-old athlete, born in São Vicente, participated in an international competition for the first time, since she started in athletics, in 2019.

“For me it is a great achievement to have participated in this competition, because it was my first international competition. Getting to the podium right away is a great emotion”, declared the young woman, in an interview with A Nação.

Despite the nervousness for the debut and the weather of almost 40 degrees, the duo took the Cape Verde flag to the podium and left satisfied.

“Now I have to work a little harder to get my mark down,” said Heidilene, who already dreams of the Paralympic Games.

From her short career in athletics, which was also interrupted by the pandemic, the young woman is first place in the 100 meters race in the São Vicente regional championship, she was national champion in 2019, won first place in the 100 meters in the Sports Midia race, between other medals.

His dream, he says, is to represent his island and his country at the highest level, to be present at an African championship, a world championship and the Paralympic Games.
