Africa-Press – Cape verde. The young Cape Verdean sailor Hendrick Lopes, 21 years old, will compete in stage one of the wing-foil world championship, which starts today at Praia de Ponta Preta, after having stayed in the second phase of the Kitesurf World Circuit, and says he is focused in a “good qualification ”.
Hendrick Lopes promises to do his best in this new aquatic sport, even if he finds this competition entertaining.
It’s just that his great passion is kitesurfing, a modality that he said he dedicates himself to a lot this season.
Cited by Inforpress, the athlete said that he is prepared to do his best in the wing-foil qualifying tests, which start today, stressing that he feels happy with his fans.
However, he admitted, however, that he felt “very pressured” throughout the kitesurfing race, by his fans and that, from now on, he has to work harder and control his emotions.
Around the world between kitesurfing and wing-foil
Hendrick Lopes confides that he spends the whole year competing in competitions on a worldwide scale and that after the wing folli world championship he will prepare to travel to Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), for the next stage of the Kitesurf World Championship and, soon after, to France, this time for the wing-foil world championship.
He addressed a message of gratitude to fans and admirers, stating that this year he could not be on the podium of the Kitesurf World Cup, but that he will do his best to try to reach the top places in the wing-foli world championship.
Need to bet on internal championships and more support for athletes
As for the future of water sports in Cape Verde, he said that the way the World Cup is being organized leads him to believe that “everything is going in the right direction”, hoping, however, that Cape Verdean athletes will be “more supported and rewarded”.
Betting on domestic championships is for Hendrick Lopes an “imperative necessity” so that emerging Cape Verdean sailors can control their emotions in high competition, as he has no doubt that these strategies can only be achieved with increasing competition.
