Africa-Press – Cape verde. The residents of the village of Achada Lém, municipality of Santa Catarina (Santiago), demand the transformation of the local health center into a health center, which according to the Cape Verde Sanitary Charter meets the population conditions for this.
This claim was made today to Inforpress by the president of the Pro-Achada Lém Association, José Teixeira, for whom, if this does not happen, people will continue not to have access to health, referring mainly to the specialties.
“This is an issue that we have already raised for some time for the need for the population’s size and the demand for health problems that it was convenient that already had a health center in Achada Lém,” said the clinical psychologist.
According to the Cape Verde Sanitary Charter a locality with a population above 5,000 inhabitants is to have a health center, recalled the associative leader.
In Santa Catarina there are four health posts (Ribeira da Barca, Engenhos, Achada Lém and Chã de Tanque), but, according to the law, the de Achada Lém and Chã de Tanque plus the surrounding areas Palha Carga and Rincão are the villages that meet the population conditions to come to have a health center.
The health centers have a responsible nurse, who also coordinates the basic health units, a helper of general services and a health agent provides services in children’s health, adolescent, women’s family planning, prenatal consultation, nursing consultation, dressings, injections and community health.
In case of need, patients are transferred to the Regional Hospital of Santiago Norte Santa Rita Vieira, which is about six kilometers of those health infrastructures.
They receive once a month directed medical consultation for patients with chronic diseases.
The population also claims Community infrastructures, such as police station, fuel station, ATM machine, interventions within the localities and the creation of conditions in the local sports board.
“I call Lém for the relevance in terms of population, for her history and people who have in a different position, in fact, needed a response from the authorities with greater dueness to give opportunity to young people,” he said.
On the other hand, the president of the Pro-Achada Lém Association was concerned about the abusive consumption of alcoholic beverages and other drugs by young people, most of whom are unemployed.
“Alcohol has been a relevant public health problem, not only in Achada Lém, but at the country level. In Achada Beyond the situation is worrying because there are a large number of young people who are consuming alcohol quite excessively,” noted José Teixeira.
According to him, considering that young people are future in the morning do not want to lose them either to alcohol or to emigration.
If this happens, there is no doubt that Achada Lém will continue without developing in the coming times.
At the time, he recalled that as a way to combat the use of alcohol and other drugs, the association that leads and partners promoted last Sunday, 21, another edition of the health fair in that village, whose majority of the population lives from agriculture and livestock.
Within the framework of the festivities, sports and cultural activities were held, promoted by the Municipality of Santa Catarina.
The festivities will have the highlight today with a Mass and procession in honor of the patron saint, which will take place in the square under constructio.
