Internet access: NOSI promises to reactivate the konekta network in all squares in the country before Christmas

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Operational Nucleus for the Information Society promises to reactivate the Kone kta network in all squares in the country, even before Christmas . According to NOSI, this free internet access network was deactivated in the squares as a way to avoid crowds during the pandemic.

According to Lumumba Barbosa, administrator of NOSI, the remaining municipalities already have at least one square connected to the Konekta network, with the process still to be concluded in Cidade da Praia, where, of the 21 access points, seven squares are already reactivated.

“After things got back to normal, we started to reactivate gradually, in partnership with the city councils”, confirmed Lumumba Barbosa to the news agency, Inforpress, adding that it only remains to complete the process of reactivating the network in the municipality of Praia.

network slowness

Lumumba Barbosa justified that the slowness of the Konekta network that users complained about was due to the fact that the internet capacity of NOSI is also intended for the State network. However, he guaranteed that the institution is working to offer better access quality.

“So it (the Konekta network) cannot work at the speed that people want, but, for example, at night, the capacity increases, because you gain capacity because there is not a lot of consumption in the State’s private network”, he explained. the NOSI administrator.

Digital inclusion

The NOSI administrator highlighted the importance of the Konekta network as a project that has the role of contributing to digital inclusion, encouraging Cape Verdeans’ access to the Internet.

It should be recalled that, in Santiago, the Konekta network also covers, at this stage, schools and high schools, within the scope of the E-Gov project.

According to NOSI data, cited by Inforpress, on average more than 1500 users/hours connect to the Konekta network and more than 18000 users connect to this network daily.
