Africa-Press – Cape verde. The number of subscriptions for Internet access grew by 4% in the first quarter compared to the end of 2023, totaling 566,024 subscriptions, almost all via mobile networks, the Multisectoral Regulatory Authority for the Economy announced this Wednesday.
Only 7% of Internet subscriptions in the archipelago correspond to services provided via a fixed network, according to data from the Multisectoral Regulatory Authority for the Economy (ARME).
The rest are all based on the country’s two mobile operators: 88% of subscriptions access the Internet via a mobile phone screen and 5% use a modem (‘pen’ with a SIM card) or tablet without voice.
According to ARME, subscriptions for Internet access have a penetration rate of around 97.2 accesses per 100 inhabitants.
The growth trend is also seen in year-on-year terms: the number of Internet subscriptions increased by 7.6% compared to the first quarter of 2023.
Electronic communications in the country and their subscribed services are mainly based on mobile cards (SIM cards), with around 590,000 active cards.
Other electronic communications subscriptions have lower values: around 60,000 for landline telephone and just over nine thousand for IPTV television.
The ARME statistical bulletin is based on a questionnaire sent to network and service operators in the electronic communications markets of Cape Verde.
