Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries launches, this morning, the National Reading Plan, within the framework of the International Conference “Libraries, Reading and Literacy in Our Days”. For the president of the National Library of Cape Verde, which is hosting the event, the involvement of civil society will be fundamental to the success of the initiative.
“That is, democratizing access to books, developing the book economy as a stimulus to intellectual production and the book market, implementing pedagogical practices and other activities that improve literacy levels and encourage reading in children, young people and adults, enriching the competences of the social actors, developing the action of teachers and reading mediators, and stimulating the formation of reading families”, he explained.
The success of the implementation of the national reading plan, as he said, depends on the engagement of all partners and social actors, namely the contribution of local authorities, educational institutions, and civil society, the latter which, as he said, bears the challenge most urgent, which is to make a prior socialization, since the project runs the risk of failing if the involvement of civil society is not enough.
National and foreign professionals, specialized in the areas of library and reading, should participate in the official launch of the National Reading Plan, chaired by the Minister of Culture and Creative Industries, Abraão Vicente.
