Africa-Press – Cape verde. The French-Cape Verdean artist Jacques Chopin has the painting exhibition “Transition” open to the public at the Praia City Hall until Monday, the 9th, inspired by the daily lives of women on the island of Santiago.
Transition, according to the artist, aims to show the evolution of Cape Verdean culture through these women from the interior of the island of Santiago.
“Because we live in a world in constant transformation, with all the influence from abroad and Cape Verdean society, even with a strong culture and identity, has registered this transformation”, he explained.
Things have evolved and today there are so many changes in Cape Verdean society that “it would be interesting to do a sociological study on this”.
“Globalization has caused ancient cultures to disappear all over the world, and this is terrible, because nature must be very diverse,” Chopin considered, warning that it is not worth traveling from one part of the world to see the same cultures in another place.
This French-Cape Verdean artist says that she discovered Cape Verde through a couple, whose wife is Cape Verdean, in Guinea Conakry, who encouraged her to discover the charms of the archipelago.
He came in 2021, having later returned to France in 2003, and now that he is retired he has been back in Cape Verde for five years, but to stay.
Jacques Chopin revealed his love for Cape Verde for the “beautiful people and beautiful landscapes”, stating that he did not choose to be French, but was simply born French.
