Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic of Cape Verde, José Maria Neves, travels, between March 31st and April 5th, to the United States of America, where he will hold his first Presidency in the Diaspora. Neves will meet with emigrant communities in the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. In addition to meetings with the highest authorities of that country and with entrepreneurs of Cape Verdean origin or ancestry.

According to the press release, the President of the Republic will be fulfilling an “intense agenda”, with various commitments in the states of Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Neves will also have meetings with the highest authorities, namely Governors and Mayors, in addition to important meetings with young leaders and associative movements in the Massachusetts region, as well as secondary school students and businessmen of Cape Verdean descent.

Great Gathering in New Bedford

The highlight of the visit of the President of the Republic will be in New Bedford, in the State of Massachusetts, where the highest magistrate of the nation will have a meeting with members of the Cape Verdean community scattered throughout the United States.

The meeting will be held at the emblematic Museu da Baleia, an occasion for interaction and recognition of the entire route of Cape Verdean emigration in the United States.

During the meeting, José Maria Neves will honor personalities, institutions and organizations representing the vast community and its various intervention fronts, namely sport, education, health and social solidarity.

One of the institutions that will be honored will be the Museu da Baleia, an institution that will also be distinguished for its “pioneer and fruitful work in recording, studying and disseminating this important period in the History of Humanity, which is Whaling and its role in formatting migratory movements, especially that of Cape Verdeans who, moreover, would become the first in Africa to emigrate to the United States as free men and women”.

Meetings with Education managers and entrepreneurs of Cape Verdean origin or descent

José Maria Neves will also have an important journey with university and high school teachers, Deans, managers in the area of ​​Education, in addition to entrepreneurs of Cape Verdean origin or ancestry, a journey that will take place at Bridgewater State University (BSU) in Massachusetts.

The President will be the special guest of a debate, in a hybrid format (in person and online) within the scope of the MIT program for Africa and the True Africa University (TAU), on the topic of e-Governance at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology).

Before returning to Cape Verde, the Head of State will be a Guest Speaker, on April 4, at the University of Massachusetts (UMass-Boston), at the ceremonies marking the 25th Anniversary of the Academic Program of Studies, Valuation and Dissemination of the Paths and Exemplary contributions by Martin Luther King, Jr. and Amilcar Cabral.
