Juliana is, therefore, the face of national women’s chess and as she says, she chose the game of life, of learning to make choices and deal with the consequences and she will “stay firm” in the sport, because curiosity has turned into a dream .

woman in chess

Chess is an emerging sport in Cape Verde. Its federation is only six years old and has 160 federated players, among them only 30 women. The president of the Cabo Verdean Chess Federation says that more women are wanted in the sport, so much so that they are exempt from fees, a way of reducing timid participation. In June, the second edition of the national women’s chess championship takes place.
