Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Cabo Verdean Cycling Federation (FCC) and the British coach Dave Savage have just released the list of athletes summoned to join the National Team, in an unprecedented participation in the World Cup in Glasgow, Scotland.

In a press release, the selection explains that a pre-selection of 8 athletes was made, including 2 alternates, including a resident U23 athlete and two Elite athletes from the diaspora.

However, after the assessment of the national team and some restrictions imposed by the International Cycling Union (UCI), they took the decision to keep only 6 athletes in the compound and even an alternate who, however, due to lack of a passport, is delayed in the process to obtain visa and therefore unlikely to participate.

According to the Cabo Verdean Cycling Federation, all steps are being taken, with a view to “creating financial and logistical conditions”, from contacts with the UCI and the public institutions that manage Sport in the country (IDJ/Ministry of Sports

and COC), having already received “favorable feedback”.

The Government, through the Institute of Sports and Youth, says the Federation, has already declared its full support for the country’s participation in the Glasgow World Cup and has already made funds available through the signing of the Program Contract, in addition to exercising its diplomacy of influence with other Institutions, Public and Private, in order to adhere to financial cooperation, with a view to materializing the desideratum, taking into account its high merit for the country.

Even the Mayor of Ribeira Grande de Santo Antão, Aníbal Fonseca, has already offered to finance his athlete’s air travel, with the Federation still looking for support from other municipalities and companies in the country.
