Africa-Press – Cape verde. The MpD candidate for the Praia City Council, Abraão Vicente, presented himself today as the leader of a “winning candidacy” in the local elections on December 1st, to “return the capital’s autonomy, ambition and hope for the future”.
“I want to be the mayor of Praia. Firstly because I was challenged by Ulisses (president of the MpD). Then I joined this mission and on behalf of the party and our base, I will win this election on behalf of the MpD and to restore pride to Praia”, said Vicente, this evening, during the presentation of the electoral platform for governance.
Called “Acelera Praia, A pact for the Municipality and the people”, the electoral platform led by Abraão Vicente, in the Municipal Council, and Manuela Brito, in the Municipal Assembly, commits to “put an end to all the setbacks to which the municipality of Praia has been subjected in recent years” and transform waste into a business opportunity.
This is because it considers that the time has come to resume development with ideas, but above all with a deep social vision towards a new era, aiming to accelerate the process of development of the capital city, within the framework of a strategic partnership with the Government and the strength of the youth.
The “Acelera Praia” platform is determined to restore pride and build the future of this municipality, having presented a list of commitments that include the requalification of public spaces and completion of stalled works, a clean and healthy Praia, creation of a municipal housing program, which includes the creation of a Municipal Housing Park through an incubator network in the communities.
The promotion of opportunities for young people, policies to create more and better jobs, the transformation of Praia into a cultural hub, and using sport as an instrument of social inclusion are other commitments of this candidacy, which promises to make Praia an exemplary city of mobility.
In a ceremony held at the Jorge Barbosa National Auditorium, sponsored by the president of the MpD, Ulisses Correia e Silva, and which was completely packed with MpD activists and supporters, the platform that was made public aims to reformulate Praia’s tax policy so that tax collection is fair.
The implementation of inclusive and transparent management and the “recovery of democratic normality” in order to “restore democracy in municipal bodies” as well as the end of isolation are other commitments of this platform that aims to mobilize resources in search of solutions to the municipality’s challenges.
“It is a platform steeped in the values of the MpD. It is a platform that is rooted in the Government’s trust that we will have all the resources available to implement the projects and that Praia will have priority and a voice, aiming at development based on strengthening its economic base.
Abraão Vicente also considered it urgent to rehabilitate the degraded areas of Praia, in this presentation that also included interventions by the candidate for the Municipal Assembly, for whom the current management of this supervisory body “has completely failed in its functions entrusted to it by law”.
Also Jacinto Santos, the first mayor of Praia and referred to as an “emblematic figure of the MpD of 90”, spoke to ask for an absolute majority victory for Abraão Vicente’s candidacy, while Alberto Melo, known as “Beta”, candidate for councilor, presented some slides of the project to accelerate the development of the capital.
