Africa-Press – Cape verde. Lourença Tavares, president of ACRIDES (Association of Disadvantaged Children) was distinguished with the 2022 Franco-German Prize for Human Rights and Rule of Law, for her “extraordinary commitment” in favor of Human Rights in Cape Verde.

In a brief reaction to A NAÇÃO online, Lourença Tavares is grateful for this award, noting that she “lacks words of gratitude” for “the gesture of these two countries”, for the recognition of ACRIDES’ work.

“I can only tell you that this award is not mine alone, I dedicate it to all the volunteers and collaborators of my team, the founding members of ACRIDES, and to all the ACRIDES partners who contributed to the consolidation of all our projects” , said Lourença Tavares.

She also underlines that ACRIDES “belongs to everyone who sees a growing being in children who need a good look, gesture and protection from all adults”.

“ACRIDES is everything that all its friends, partners, public and private institutions and collaborators have done for the most vulnerable children in Cape Verde”, he adds.

“Extraordinary” work

In a joint letter from the two embassies, to which A NAÇÃO had access, the recognition of Lourença Tavares in the attribution of this prize stands out, for “her extraordinary commitment in favor of human rights, in Cape Verde and beyond”.

The prize will be formally handed over in Praia, at a location and date to be announced.
