Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Secretary of State Assistant to the Prime Minister, Lourenço Lopes, said today in Praia that freedom of the press is experienced in Cabo Verde, but warned that it is a permanent construction and a struggle for all.
Lourenço Lopes stated these remarks in the opening speech of the conference allusive to the commemoration of the Press Freedom Day, under the slogan “Shaping a Future of Rights – Freedom of expression as the engine of all other human rights”, held by the Association of Cape Verdean Journalists (AJOC).
“The Constitution and the laws are very favorable to the exercise of journalism, so professionals can freely exercise the profession, but this fight, like everything else in democracy, is a permanente construction and an achievement for all, so that we can be proud of a press truly free”, he stressed.
However, he pointed out that the State, “respecting the independence and self-government of the public and private media”, has created the conditions and promoted a favorable environment for the exercise of the duty to inform and the right to be informed truthfully and independently.
