Maio Island hosts screening of the documentary “Cesária Évora”

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Youth House on the island of Maio will host the screening of the documentary about the life and career of the “barefoot diva”, Cesária Évora, this Saturday, the 7th, as part of the European Film Festival.

Directed by Ana Sofia Fonseca, the film “Cesária Évora, the barefoot diva”, released in 2022, comes to the island of Maio to introduce the people of Maio to the intimate life of the great name of Cape Verde, from loneliness, alcohol problems and global success.

With never-before-seen images and testimonies from those who knew Cesária Évora, the film offers a never-before-explored insight into the life of the Cape Verdean singer who, despite not corresponding to the normal model of success, was able to overcome all the conditions that would normally keep her from stardom.

The film is being shown as part of the European Film Festival, which has been taking place since 3 December in São Vicente, Santiago and now on the island of Maio, with films from countries such as Estonia, Spain, Portugal and Cape Verde being shown.

On the island of Maio, after the showing of the film “Cesária Évora”, a serenade will take place in the streets of Porto Inglês, in celebration of National Morna Day.
