Major PJ Operation Leads to Homicide Arrest in Achada

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Polícia Judiciária (PJ) detained, on December 30, 2025, in São Vicente, another individual targeted in the mega-operation launched on December 20th in the Brasil neighborhood, in Achada Santo António, Praia.

The mega-operation, carried out by the Crimes Against Persons Investigation Section (SICCP), included the execution of search and seizure warrants issued by the Criminal Investigation Court of the Praia District Court, in collaboration with the Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The individual is a 20-year-old man, originally from Nossa Senhora da Graça, Praia municipality, whose former residence was located in Achada Mato.

The detained group is indicted for aggravated homicide, attempted aggravated homicide, gang activity, illegal possession of weapons, and drug trafficking of high and low risk.

Among the victims is a 16-year-old minor, whose death occurred in the Achada de Santo António neighborhood in March of last year.

According to the PJ (Judicial Police), the most recently located suspect was on the island of São Vicente, at the First Military Region Command, and was arrested with the support of the Mindelo Criminal Investigation Department (DICM) and the Armed Forces, who placed him at the disposal of the judicial authorities, keeping him under military custody for the purpose of executing the warrant.

After the arrest, the suspect was presented to the authorities for the first judicial interrogation, and the Court ordered his preventive detention, similar to the other three defendants arrested in the municipality of Praia.

With this latest arrest, there are now nine defendants in preventive detention, detained as part of this investigation since the 20th, all indicted for the crimes of aggravated and attempted homicide, gang activity, illegal possession of weapons, and drug trafficking.

The suspects are now awaiting further legal proceedings under the aforementioned coercive measure.
