Africa-Press – Cape verde. The new pitch at the João Serra Stadium in Ponta do Sol will be inaugurated on Sunday, the 4th, at 1 PM, the city hall announced today in a press release.
The inauguration of the sports infrastructure marks the beginning of the 2025/2026 football season in the northern region of Santo Antão.
According to the Ribeira Grande City Council, the acquisition of the new grass for the João Serra Stadium represents an investment of 32,500 thousand escudos, financed through a project developed by the municipality and the Government, through the Ministry of Sports.
This is part of the plan to improve and upgrade sports infrastructure with the aim of developing conditions for the training of young athletes and the holding of official competitions.
In addition to the inauguration of the pitch, a ceremony is planned to welcome and bless a new bus, which arrived today in Santo Antão, provided by the Cape Verdean Football Federation (FCF), within the framework of the FIFA Forward program, a project aimed at strengthening the institutional capacity of regional federations and associations.
Also on Sunday, the 4th, the 2025/2026 season begins with the first round of the regional cup, featuring a round-robin format played over five rounds by the five teams registered in the official competitions.
Foguetes – Solpontense (2 PM) and Santo Crucifixo – Beira Mar (4 PM) are the first-round matches, while Rosariense is exempt from the initial round.
