Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Académica do Maio team has already started training for the new football season, with the ambition of placing the black team among the best on the island.
This intention was announced to Inforpress by the coach of the black team from the town of Calheta, António Almeida Correia e Silva, better known within May as Balakov, highlighting that in recent years the team has failed to present a competitive squad.
For this reason, he emphasized that the students from the village of Calheta have been at the bottom of the table in recent editions, a position that they want to reverse and put the team “in its place”, which everyone expects and recognizes.
He acknowledged that, in recent years, forming a competitive squad on the island of Maio has required a lot of resources, which is why he admitted that until then they had not managed to close the squad, but guaranteed that by next January they will have all the players.
He recalled that the first game of the season will be the final of the Djarmai super cup against Barreirense, a competition that will be an opportunity to test the squad.
“We will certainly do everything we can to win this competition and start the season in the best possible way, despite the respect we have for the Barreirense team”, he highlighted.
He highlighted the advantage that the entry into operation of the grass pitch will provide the team this season and took the opportunity to ask the fans to hug the players and go to the stadium to support the team in all the games.
It should be noted that the football season starts on December 16th, with the super cup between the teams of Barreirense and Académica do Maio, taking into account the withdrawal of the Figueirense team, current regional football champion of Maio.
