Africa-Press – Cape verde. The island of Maio will host this year, the Biennial of Young Creators of Cities in Portuguese-speaking Countries, within the framework of the National Youth Capital, announced this Wednesday, 9, the representative of the Institute of Sport and Youth, Ivanilda kings.

According to the official, the choice of the island to receive the National Youth Capital aims to bring the “centrality” to Maio and, with this, connect local young people with each other and with other colleagues from the other islands, and at the same time bring information about existing training opportunities both in the country and across borders

The event is part of the activities of the “May City Capital of Youth” and has several activities, with emphasis on workshops and the national youth forum in which young people from the diaspora will participate.

Ivanilda Reis also advanced that the CPLP Young Creators Biennial is being organized with the partners. Without advancing the date, she added that the central act of commemoration of the International Youth Day will be held on the island.

Sport

The representative of the Instituto do Desporto e da Juventude in Maio indicated that in terms of sport, the island will once again host in the summer, similarly to last year, the ‘Maio Ocean Trail, during which a training action is planned for the qualification of sports agents and promotion of other sports that are not being practiced at the moment.

In this context, he continued, a monthly cleaning campaign is also scheduled to be carried out in the various villages and beaches of the island of Maio.

“We are going to hold an SDG camp, with students from the 11th and 12th grades of the Horace Silver Secondary School, to learn more and find out how they can participate and make their contributions so that we can achieve the goals”, he said, noting that he also The “May clean day” is planned for every month, in which they intend to count on the participation of all young people.

Knowing the local reality

As that representative stressed, from the meetings held with some youth groups organized on the island, they became better acquainted with the local reality. In these meetings, he specified, the groups presented their constraints and concerns that have to do with the organization and empowerment of associations, and it was agreed, during this event, to carry out training on associativism in general on the island.

To address the lack of information regarding the various advertisements for training vacancies both nationally and internationally, as well as credit lines for micro and small companies, which young people from Mai have been demanding, the IDJ informed that it is planning to bring to the island representatives of the various institutions and universities to pass on the necessary information.
