Africa-Press – Cape verde. The mayor of Porto Novo defended on Friday the recognition of the role of kindergarten monitors and proposed “working, in conjunction with the Ministry of Education, to improve the salary conditions” of this group.
Elisa Pinheiro took advantage of the visit of the Minister of Education, Amadeu Cruz, to Porto Novo, within the framework of the expanded council of the Ministry of Education, to launch this proposal aimed at creating the conditions for improving the salaries of the monitors and recognizing their role.
The Porto Novo City Hall is responsible for 18 of the 20 kindergartens in the municipality.
In response, the Minister of Education explained that the management of kindergartens is the responsibility of the municipal councils, which, he believes, should assume the payment of the kindergarten teachers’ salaries, thus ruling out any possibility of the Government assuming this responsibility.
“The responsibility for implementing the new salary scale for kindergarten monitors lies with the municipalities, but if there are difficulties, we can collaborate,” the official stressed.
The mayor of Porto Novo acknowledged that there is no specific Career, Functions, and Remuneration Plan (PCFR) for early childhood education teachers, but stated that the PCFR for the teaching staff implemented by the Ministry of Education “includes early childhood education teachers.”
“In municipalities, there is no specific PCFR for early childhood education teachers, nor does this professional category exist. What exists is the PCFR for teachers, which includes early childhood education teachers, and which should be implemented by the Ministry of Education,” argued Elisa Pinheiro.
