Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Minister of Education announced on Thursday, the 29th, in Santo Antão, the approval “within days” of the package to revise the basic legislation of Higher Education in Cape Verde “to adjust this level of education to the current reality.”
Amadeu Cruz, who is in Santo Antão where he chaired the expanded council of the Ministry of Education, explained that the revision of the basic legislation of Higher Education will also allow the government to “converge with international quality standards” for this level of education.
The Minister of Education also guaranteed that his ministry is “working to increase the coverage of young people’s education in higher education,” whose rate is currently estimated at around 23 percent (%).
Cruz, responding to the challenge launched on Tuesday by Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva at the opening of the expanded council of the Ministry of Education, regarding the need to increase this rate, assured that active policies are being implemented in this regard, notably in terms of scholarships, currently supporting 4,200 scholarship recipients, which corresponds to 45% of young people enrolled in national universities.
“But we are aware that all this is not enough. Therefore, we are developing university residences and strengthening the operating conditions of universities in the country,” highlighted the head of the education ministry, for whom the Government is “responding in Santo Antão and throughout Cape Verde.”
