This Thursday, the 17th, the private hospital ‘Urgimed Health & Hospitality’ was inaugurated which, according to the promoters, will reinforce the installed capacity in the provision of health care in São Vicente and Cape Verde. Services should be up and running from December.
“We are always committed to offering quality, differentiated and innovative services, conceived in a comprehensive and improved way”, guaranteed the hospital administrator, Júlio Wahnon, on the sidelines of the inauguration act, which was also attended by the Prime Minister of Cape Verde and the mayor of São Vicente.
It is the first private hospital in the country, which has an operating room, with all services for surgeries, in several areas, including prostate, orthopedics and gynecology/obstetrics, among others.
Located on the way up Cruz João Évora, it also includes an inpatient service with 14 private rooms, a maternity ward and a 24-hour emergency room.
All these services, which should be in operation from next December.
“Key Sector”
The Prime Minister, Ulisses Correia e Silva, who was present at the event, praised the boldness of the promoters in investing in a “fundamental” sector for human development and the economy itself.
“Today, with the situation of the pandemic and covid-19 and everything that has left and is still producing, health has become a distinguishing factor. If before it was very important for everyone’s quality of life and well-being, today it is undeniable that there is no sustainable economy without good health services”, he said.

Mayor Augusto Neves, in turn, welcomed the creation of new jobs, job creation and dynamization of the local and national economy.
He called, on the other hand, for the hospital unit to position itself as a place of specialized training and scientific research.
“Thus, we hope to be able to witness the participation of the private hospital in these relevant areas for the sake of the health of the Cape Verdean people in the short term”, he underlined.
