Africa-Press – Cape verde. Energy Minister Alexandre Monteiro stated in Parliament today that the power supply in Praia should return to normal by November, following a series of maintenance and capacity enhancement interventions.
During the parliamentary debate on the energy crisis, during the general questions period, the minister clarified that the Sal power plant will undergo recommissioning this month, doubling its installed capacity.
For Praia, the government emphasized that it anticipates the arrival of leased power, with shipment completed and arrival scheduled for October 28th, which will help restore normal electricity supply.
“The full normalization of the supply, which is being discussed here, is expected with the arrival of the leased power, whose units have already been dispatched and shipped, with arrival scheduled for October 28th. Before that, we are also counting on the reintegration of another unit, whose intervention, already underway, will be completed by the end of the month,” he stated.
Monteiro assured that some generator sets in Praia have already undergone full and more in-depth repairs, and others will be reinstated by the end of October, increasing the system’s reliability.
“We also anticipate the final restoration of the group that was undergoing preventive maintenance in November. With all these actions, we will have a completely different and safe operating environment starting in November,” the minister said.
