The Minister of Finance, Olavo Correia, said this Wednesday that the inspection of the Presidency of the Republic carried out by his ministry is a “normal operation” under the terms of the law and that he will only make a decision after the conclusions.The government official made these statements after being questioned by journalists about the announcement by the General Inspectorate of Finance (IGF) that, by resolution of the Minister of Finance and Business Development, an inspection action will be carried out on the Presidency of the Republic, after the controversy over the First Lady’s salary and perks.
“We will wait calmly and calmly as this is a normal operation in terms of what the law provides and, therefore, only after the conclusions are reached we will be able to talk about the matter again”, said the deputy prime minister.
Olavo Correia, who today presided over the ceremony to hand over self-employment kits to beneficiaries of the Entrepreneurship Development Program – PDE II in the municipality of Ribeira Grande de Santiago, highlighted that his ministry complied with a public request from the Presidency of the Republic.
“It is an activity that the General Inspectorate of Finance will carry out, as there was a public request from the President of the Republic, we cannot make the statement, we have fulfilled our obligation and we will wait calmly and without much noise and after the result We will speak again, if necessary, about the matter”, he said.
The inspection, according to an official note, will focus on the items “Expenses on Personnel of the Presidency of the Republic of Cape Verde” and responds to the provisions of paragraph e) of paragraph 1 of article 4 and paragraph 2 of article 11 of the Decree -Law no. 76/2021 of 2 November, in conjunction with paragraph b) of paragraph 1 of article 16 of Decree-Law No. 48/2004, of 15 November.
“Upon possession of the order from the Minister of Finance, the Inspector General of Finance issues an order appointing a team to carry out this action. The order is delivered to the team for preparation and initiation of action”, the Inspector General of Finance, Domingos Pascoal Monteiro Lopes, told Inforpress.
According to this person, the action begins with the collection of information necessary to draw up a plan and continues with visits to the entity, with communication to the entity depending on coordination between the team and the IGF management.
This inspection action will cover the period between November 9, 2021 and the present date, and its purpose is to clarify the legality and regularity of personnel expenses.
In these terms, Domingos Lopes warns that, in the next few days, an IGF team will be at the Presidency of the Republic to carry out the same.
The case of the payment of the first lady by the Presidency of the Republic came to the public on the day that the PR met the Council of State, a body of regular consultation with the President, despite it not being included in the meeting’s lineup nor having been the subject of analysis.
