Ministry of Defense Launches Enlist and Train Campaign

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Ministry of Defense today launched the campaign “Enlist and train for life”, with the aim of attracting more young people to mandatory military service and publicizing the training and career opportunities available in the Armed Forces.

According to the announcement by the Minister of State and Minister of Defense, Janine Lélis, the campaign will be broadcast on radio, television and other media and also aims to strengthen the confidence of families and society in the Armed Forces, contributing to increasing adherence to compulsory military service.

“We want to show that there are opportunities for education, training and careers. That the career is beautiful, that it is well paid, but above all, that there is a commitment to serving the country,” he said.

According to the governor, this initiative is part of a set of measures that seek to modernize and value compulsory military service, reinforcing the connection between the military institution and Cape Verdean youth.

“Each of us contributes our skills and talents to the service of our country. It is important that young people understand the role they can play in the Armed Forces and that they see this experience as an opportunity for personal and professional growth,” he emphasized.

The campaign is part of the ongoing reform in the Defense sector, which also provides for the granting of a monthly subsidy to recruits from 2026, the restructuring of the Citizen Soldier program, the strengthening of military training and the expansion of partnerships with national and international training institutions.
