Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries will support the 11th edition of Sodad – Festival d’ Mornas, which takes place on April 11th and 12th, in Vila da Praia Branca, on the island of São Nicolau.
The guarantee was given this Monday, 03, by the Minister of Culture and Industries, Augusto Veiga, during a working meeting he held with the mayor of Tarrafal de São Nicolau, Neivo Araújo.
In a note sent, the mayor of Tarrafal de São Nicolau informs that the festival will take place on April 11th and 12th, in Vila da Praia Branca, and celebrates the ongoing homage of the municipality of Tarrafal to Armando Zeferino Soares, author of the famous Morna “Sodade d’ nha Terra Sanincolau”, immortalized, among others, by famous names from Cape Verde such as Cesária Évora and Paulino Vieira, the latter from Praia Branca.
After meeting with the Minister of Culture, Neivo Araújo justified the need for a new look for the festival, which takes place annually in Praia Branca, highlighting that it is an opportunity to celebrate the rich culture and music of Cape Verde.
In this sense, the mayor informs that the Government, through the Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries, is associated with this event and will provide financial subsidies, following the practice of previous years.
In the same note, the mayor announces that Augusto Veiga will be present at the festival. “With the exception of the year of Covid-19, the Sodad – Festival d’ Mornas has taken place annually and aims to promote national culture, Morna and the island of São Nicolau in general”, reports the same source.
On the first day of the festival, a Friday, the 11th, a conference on the theme of Morna will take place, in the square of Casa da Morna. On the second day, Saturday the 12th, the Mornas parade will take place, in an event that should bring together several national artists.
