MpD elections: Re-elected, Ulisses promises changes to the statutes to strengthen the party “even more”

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the Movement for Democracy (MpD), Ulisses Correia e Silva, the ruling party, was re-elected this Sunday, the 16th, in direct elections by more than 90 percent of the 10,000 voters who exercise their right to vote in the country and in the diaspora, in a universe of around 32 thousand subscribers.

Deputy Orlando Dias, who ran against the current Prime Minister, said that there had been fraud and that Correia e Silva was weakened.

“The MpD is to be congratulated, this is what matters most and we are stronger for the new battles, which will be decisive for the country”, stressed the re-elected president of the “fans”, informing that there will be changes in the statutes to reinforce, “even more”, the party.

Ulisses Correia e Silva stressed that it was a “great victory for the MpD, because the militants understood well what was at stake” and announced to his supporters that the “commitment is to win the municipal and legislative elections, in 2024, and in 2026 and continue to rule”.

Asked about his opponent’s accusations of fraud, Correia e Silva said that “people must respect the results” since the difference is abysmal and concluded that “you can’t come up with excuses of this type that always end up hitting the institution and we don’t we want the MpD to be hit with this kind of statements”.

Ulisses thanked, via social network, party members for their trust

Already on his page on the social network Facebook, the Prime Minister of Cabo and re-elected president of the MPD made a point of sending a message of thanks to the militants of the fan party who voted for him.

“The MpD comes out of these elections stronger. At the local level, at the level of the municipalities, regions and the country, we demonstrate, once again, our union and our strength. I want to congratulate and thank the MpD militants for yet another victory and for the trust placed in me to lead the future of this great party. It is the victory of Democracy and Freedom. For the party, for the country.” read in the publication.

Defeated candidate talks about fraud and stresses that the winner was abstention

Speaking to the Inforpress agency after the defeat, Orlando Dias said there was “a generalized fraud scheme” that “worked very well”.

“Ulisses Correia de Silva leaves these elections weakened”, added Dias, without explaining how, but concluded that although the results “have fallen far short of what we expected, they translate into a clear manifestation of strength, strength and the future of the ideas that we embody”.

Orlando Dias, still on the sidelines of the provisional results, said that Ulisses Correia e Silva had an arithmetic victory, but that, however, the winner of these elections is the abstention.

Provisional data point to a significant victory for Correia e Silva

The director of the MpD’s Support Office for the Electoral Process (GAPE), Silvano Barros, merely noted that it was “an expressive victory for the candidacy led by Ulisses Correia e Silva, with more than 90% of the votes”, and ruled out any allegation of fraud stating that the entity responsible for the electoral process was not aware of any situation and that, however, there may have been “irrelevant situations that do not invalidate the provisional results”.

The definitive results will be announced in the next few days, as the counting is still in progress, assures GAPE.

Ulisses Correia e Silva’s new mandate is for five years.
