Municipality already has a space to celebrate Amílcar Cabral's centenary and disseminate his thoughts

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The municipality of São Miguel received today the “Casa Amílcar Cabral Initiative” Project, which aims to celebrate Amílcar Cabral’s centenary, but also to disseminate his thoughts among the people of São Miguel.

This initiative came from a daughter of the municipality, Carla Carvalho, who also had the support of several other residents and the Amílcar Cabral Foundation, a place that will allow young people, students, children and the entire community to learn more about who Amílcar was. Cabral and his contribution to having a free and independent Cape Verde today.

The mentor, who is also a national deputy, highlighted that the place will also have access to the Internet and will operate every day from Monday to Saturday, until December 2024, also thinking of a place to facilitate students who often they live far away and do Physical Education during the opposite period of classes, instead of being on the street aimlessly they can go to the place to learn about history, but also for research and study.

Initially, he said that there will be an exhibition on the life and work of Amílcar Cabral, but later there will be small mentoring, lectures and visits, aimed at students to get to know Cabral, not only as a combatant, but as a politician, as a humanist, philosopher , agronomist and poet, reinforcing that it is necessary to know all the other facets of the hero.

“That is the main objective, but also because we know that parliament, in this case the parliamentary group of the Movement for Democracy (MpD – power) rejected the country’s celebration of Cabral’s Centenary at the highest level and I decided to make my contribution as a deputy”, explained the deputy from the Cape Verde African Independence Party (PAICV – opposition).

For her part, the teacher and also participant in this initiative, Edna Barros, began by thanking the support for this initiative to become a reality today, highlighting that it is something innovative.

“Bringing the ‘Casa Amílcar Cabral to São Miguel’ is an opportunity, for us as teachers, the entire educational community, and all people from São Miguel to interact with the story of Amílcar Cabral and see to what extent Cabral had a deep, reflective struggle and critical for the independence of Guinea and Cape Verde”, he said, reinforcing that it is an opportunity for the community to learn about and disseminate this history to other generations.

In this sense, he left an appeal for the preservation of the space, but also for people to visit and publicize the place as much as possible, in order to take advantage of the resources made available to the people of São Paulo and which is also open to everyone who wants to visit the place.

The 9th year student, Edna Oliveira, saw this house as a “source to enrich knowledge about Amílcar Cabral and the history of Cape Verde’s independence”, advising everyone, especially students, to visit the place and drink in this history.
