New IMP’s President calls for institution’s financial autonomy to help speed up processes

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The new chairman of the board of directors (PCA) of the Maritime and Port Institute (IMP) on Monday urged the Ministry to grant more autonomy to the institution to help speed up processes in certain matters and certain moments.

Seidy Santos launched the challenge at the swearing-in ceremony in Mindelo, in which he argued that financial autonomy is a “very important” condition for the full continuation of his duties as a maritime authority.

“The role of regulator, supervisor and controller is not consistent with rigidity in financial procedures. The bureaucracy that involves the IMP in terms of clearance of payments and investments harms, in a way, the speed up in certain matters and certain moments”, he criticized.

Therefore, he expects to see the implementation of the items of the new Statute of the institute, which have established to receive percentages of Maritime Safety Rate and also the rates of concessions in the maritime public domain areas.
