North of Santiago: Municipality of Santa Cruz celebrates 52 years of its creation today

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Municipality of Santa Cruz, in the interior of the island of Santiago, considered the largest agricultural municipality on this island, celebrates 52 years of its creation, in 1971.

According to data published on the website of the City Hall on the Internet, Santa Cruz has 109 square kilometers and was proclaimed a municipality by decree-law 108/71, of March 22, for the detachment of two parishes from the municipality of Praia.

The creation of this municipality in the interior of Santiago, which has its headquarters in the city of Pedra Badejo, had the objective of promoting the development of activities that population growth imposed and providing the population with quick contacts with the headquarters, both in the municipality and in the parishes, where their problems had to be solved.

Considered as the most agricultural municipality on the island of Santiago, with the practice of agriculture unfolding in the Irrigation and rainfed modalities, thus becoming the main economic activity which, combined with the fishing sector, occupies about 45% of the population active in Santa Cruz.
