Africa-Press – Cape verde. The president of the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV) is expected in Santo Antão on Sunday for a one-day visit, with the purpose of “taking the pulse” of the island’s social and economic situation, Inforpress reported today.
The visit program sent to Inforpress states that the leader of the largest opposition party, Francisco Carvalho, will begin his visit in the north of the island, where he will meet with people in the cities of Ribeira Grande and Ponta do Sol.
Also in the northern part of the island, Francisco Carvalho will visit the city of Pombas and the locality of Janela, in the municipality of Paul.
The highlight of the visit will take place in the city of Porto Novo, with meetings with the PAICV Regional Political Commission of Santo Antão and a meeting with party members.
In addition to learning about the current situation on the island, the PAICV leader also intends to use the visit to “boost the local structures” of the party with a view to the 2026 legislative elections.
This is Francisco Carvalho’s first visit to Santo Antão since the PAICV Congress held in June of this year.
