
Africa-Press – Cape verde. The members of the Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry into the management of the Social Sustainability Fund for Tourism and the Environment, known as CPI-Tourism and Environment Fund, sworn in today, have 180 days to complete the inquiry.
The CPI is made up of deputies from the Movement for Democracy (MpD, in power) João Gomes, Luís Carlos Silva, Vanusa Barbosa, Alcides de Pina, Isa Rodrigues, Antonieta Moreira, deputies from the African Party for the Independence of Cape Verde (PAICV, opposition), Rosa Rocha, Mário Teixeira, Clóvis Silva, Alberto Baptista Mota, Albertino Mota and by the deputy of the Independent and Democratic Cape Verdean Union (UCID, opposition) António Monteiro.
Among several tasks, it has to investigate how the financing system for investments in the environment and tourism sector works, which projects are and were financed with private companies, civil society organizations, the central administration of the State, including contracts – program with the municipalities, the responsibility of the Government, the municipalities, and what the budget was estimated and executed.
After the inauguration ceremony that was conferred by the president of the National Assembly, Austelino Correia, the president of the Commission, João Gomes, promised together with his colleagues, to do everything so that in the end Cape Verdeans can be enlightened about what happened, in fact, at the level of management of these funds.
“Committees of inquiry are fundamental elements for the functioning of parliaments and this CPI will not deviate from the rule. We will dedicate all our energy, our experience as deputies to investigate everything that concerns the management of these two funds, important for the development of Cape Verde”, he reinforced.
As he added, this commission will not accuse or condemn anyone, as, he maintained, the mission will always be to investigate everything that concerns the management of these two funds, from their creation to the present day.
For his part, the president of the National Assembly assured that parliament as a plural order is best positioned to bring effective truth to public opinion through its deputies, who have to respond to their responsibilities and commitments.
“We cannot have parliamentary commissions of inquiry that in the end result in nothing, it is more time that we spend, it is more noise that we make, it is more partisan political dispute”, he maintained, remembering that the objective of parliamentary commissions of inquiry It is not a partisan political dispute, but rather bringing together enough elements to clarify public opinion.
On the occasion, Austelino Correia expressed concern about the image that parliament sometimes presents outside, believing that this Commission is also an example for a paradigm shift.
