Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Independent and Democratic Cape Verdean Union (UCID-opposition) said today that maintaining the prices of inter-island maritime transport tickets with differentiation between nationals and foreigners appears “xenophobic.”
In a political declaration by his party on this third and final day of the second plenary session of April, deputy António Monteiro began by saying that the concession of any public maritime transport service is something that must be looked at very carefully, since it directly affects the country’s economy.
“The idea itself of conceding this service is extremely important and desirable in order to guarantee quality, reliability, low cost in travel, predictability, and safety of maritime transport between the islands,” he emphasized.
However, António Monteiro highlighted that the concession of the public maritime transport service should not be seen only as a business, but as an essential service for the population.
