Passengers who traveled from Boa Vista report missing luggage at the Porto Praia pier

Africa-Press – Cape verde. Passengers who traveled from Boa Vista to the city of Praia on the ship “Dona Tututa” denounce the disappearance of two suitcases and a mobile phone inside the enclosure of the Porto da Praia pier, last Thursday, 26th, around 9.30 pm. They allege a lack of control and security within the pier enclosure and lament the situation “generalized at all scales”.

In an interview with A NAÇÃO, Manuel dos Santos, better known as “Nanais da Boa Vista”, reported that the luggage disappeared at around 9.30 pm, after the ship “Dona Tututa” had arrived at Cais da Praia, last Thursday, January 26th.

“My niece’s husband lost a suitcase with his belongings and another passenger also went through the same situation with his suitcase that contained his documents, including the exams he brought to the city of Praia to do a Computed Tomography (CAT), told “Nanais da Boa Vista”, claiming that the suitcases disappeared due to lack of control within the quay enclosure.

Lack of control in the distribution of luggage

“The bags came from Boa Vista and were removed from the boat. It was placed in a Dina vehicle, transport that then makes the distribution. But not having this process, no control, especially at the time of distribution, they don’t expect all passengers to be present to receive their luggage. As always, the distribution was carried out without control”, reports Manuel dos Santos, considering that “other passengers or the people involved in the distribution themselves must have taken their belongings”.

After realizing that their luggage was missing, the two passengers say they approached those responsible for distribution who were unable to take responsibility for the loss, according to our interviewee.

“No one could say anything about the missing luggage”

Manuel dos Santos, added that, later, he also unsuccessfully contacted the security guards and the National Police agent who were at the scene.

“No one could say anything about the luggage we lost. There was nowhere to complain. We resorted to the security that was present and the National Police agent but they couldn’t do anything either”, reports the citizen who subsequently lost his cell phone.

“I was bewildered by the whole situation, not knowing exactly what to do. There is no information on who to turn to. In this situation, I also lost my phone which I had in my pocket. In the end, we were left without the two suitcases and without the phone”, laments the Boavista man who came to the city of Praia to return to his home island on the 7th of February.

nothing resolved

The passengers concerned regret the lack of control at the Porto da Praia pier, a situation they say they see at all scales on the islands.

“Other people have gone through this before and nothing has ever been done. Losses remain without anyone being held accountable. There should be serious control when delivering luggage. From what we are seeing, there are already people wanting to take advantage of the situation, stealing each other’s luggage. And this is not just on the Porto da Praia pier”, he concludes.

The lost mobile phone costs around 30,000 escudos while the bags, in addition to the monetary value, have a greater loss, namely personal documents and the results of analyzes for consultations in the city of Praia of one of the passengers.
