Africa-Press – Cape verde. The National Police (PN) has confirmed the stabbing of two people on Saturday afternoon in Alto Mira Mar, São Vicente. One of the victims, aged 18, was killed in his home by his own uncle, who also injured the deceased’s sister. In the same location, an 80-year-old woman was killed with a bladed weapon. The authorities have not yet established any connection between the two murders.
At a press conference on Sunday afternoon, the spokesperson for the National Police, Deputy Commissioner Elvis Leite, explained that, in the first case, the report arrived at around 4:00 pm on Saturday, through the police force’s Command and Control Centre. The confessed perpetrator, aged 52, was caught at the scene of the crime.
“When we entered the house, we came across an 18-year-old male lying on the floor with several injuries. The room was completely ransacked and there were traces of blood in various places. The attacker was caught leaving the kitchen and heading into the hallway, where he was promptly approached, searched and handcuffed by the National Police. He attacked the victim in the chest and leg. The murder weapon was seized – a knife with a 20 cm blade and a 12.5 cm handle. The victim’s sister, in an attempt to help her brother, suffered some injuries to her hand and bruises on her neck”, he explains.
The young man was admitted to the Batista de Sousa Hospital already dead. His sister was discharged the same day.
According to the National Police, the attacker, who had a habit of visiting the victims’ homes, arrived at the residence together with the murdered young man.
“We do not know what happened to lead to this fatality. [The man] simply confessed to the act, but from the assessment we made, he did not appear to have consumed any type of alcohol or psychoactive substance. However, with the investigation ongoing, if it is necessary to carry out any diligence to determine whether he was consuming any psychoactive substance, this will certainly be done”, he says.
Regarding the second victim, an 80-year-old woman, Elvis Leite clarified that the PN received the call at around 8:00 pm, through a neighbour who used to visit the elderly woman’s house, on Rua Guiné-Bissau, in Alto Mira Mar. The octogenarian, who lived alone, was found dead, with the alleged murder weapon, a knife, next to her body.
“At the scene, we found a female victim, around 80 years old, lying on the floor, in a pool of blood, next to a knife that was promptly seized by the police”, he said.
The investigation into both homicides is being carried out by the Polícia Judiciária (PJ). Despite the use of the same type of weapon in both homicides, the authorities have not yet established any connection between the two cases.
As for the confessed murderer of the 18-year-old, who had no previous record of crimes with the National Police, he will be brought before the São Vicente District Court this Monday to apply the coercive measure.
