Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Águas do Porto Novo (APN) desalination unit completed 16 years of operation this December, a period in which it produced four cubic hectometers of desalinated water, the company reported today.Data provided to Inforpress by APN indicate that, since the desalination unit was operational in December 2007, four million tons of drinking water have been produced to supply the city of Porto Novo.
APN is the result of a public-private partnership, which involved Águas da Ponta Preta, the Government of Cape Verde and the municipality of Porto Novo, producing desalinated water for 16 years under a 30-year concession.
The desalination unit has a production capacity of one thousand cubic meters of water per day.
APN is one of the shareholders (together with the municipalities) of the company Águas de Santo Antão, whose constituent assembly took place today in the city of Porto Novo.
In a message addressed to shareholders, the APN board of directors expressed its “satisfaction” at being part of this public-private partnership, which will allow, he added, “to implement the integral water cycle throughout the island of Santo Antão”. The Week with Inforpress
