Africa-Press – Cape verde. Porto Novo is in the process of gaining some infrastructure in the fishing field within the scope of the Terra Azul project, co-financed by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) and the Ministry of the Sea.
The coordinator of the Center for Rural Studies and International Agriculture (CERAI), one of the promoters of the Terra Azul project, which is being implemented on the islands of Santo Antão and São Vicente, highlighted the creation of fish processing and valorization centers, which will be located in the city of Porto Novo and in Tarrafal de Monte Trigo, respectively.
The infrastructure package planned for Porto Novo also includes the creation of a platform for treating and drying fish in Tarrafal de Monte Trigo.
Regarding the fish processing center, which will operate in the old fish market, Adriano Palma, who was speaking during the forum “Supplying the islands: Professionalization and network organization of primary sector associations”, announced that the remodeling works on the space will begin next week.
As for the fish processing center in Tarrafal de Monte Trigo, the space is now ready to receive the equipment.
During the forum, an initiative by CERAI and the Association of Friends of Nature, community leaders from the primary sector, institutional representatives and experts discussed professionalization and networking strategies.
The forum, which is part of the Terra Azul project, aimed to “promote debate in favor of greater professionalization of primary sector associations and involves associative leaders from the primary sector in the intervention islands.
The project, which foresees an investment of R$70 thousand in fishing in Santo Antão and São Vicente over two years, consists, in addition to the processing of fish, in the creation of fish drying platforms, aiming to improve hygiene conditions and the value of the product.
This project has as partners the municipal councils of the two islands, among other public institutions, and its general objective is to strengthen food security, resilience and equal opportunities on the islands of Santo Antão and São Vicente.
