Africa-Press – Cape verde. The delegate of the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA) in the municipality of Porto Novo, Joel Barros, said today that the services he directs are already working with farmers in the preparation of the agricultural year, in this Municipality.
He said that the issue of pests, namely of locusts and the corn cartridge caterpillar, was one of the concerns of the MAA delegation in Porto Novo, where the time of the waters is being awaited with great expectation by the farmers.
The fact that irrigated agriculture depends on springs and boreholes and that the county has one of the largest livestock herds in the country means that the rains are being greatly awaited by rural men, according to the MAA delegate, who informed that, since May, the agricultural year is being prepared.
In some valleys, such as Alto Mira and Ribeira das Patas, some springs are reducing the flow to the concern of farmers who are clamoring for rain, according to farmers’ associations.
