Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Lagoa da Ribeira das Patas Women’s Association (Amular), in the municipality of Porto Novo, is implementing an environmental project that has helped alleviate unemployment among women in that community.
Amular’s president, Milú Pires, told Inforpress that the project involves forest clearing and soil conservation, funded by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA) as part of the national forest management program.
Milú Pires stated that, thanks to this project, Amular has been able to create 15 jobs, thus reducing unemployment among women in Lagoa da Ribeira das Patas, a community with significant social challenges.
Furthermore, Amular continues to seek partners to complete its headquarters, where it plans to install an agricultural product processing unit to create jobs for women.
Milú Pires stated that Amular has not secured the necessary financing to complete the project, despite its relentless search for partners.
So far, this association has had the support of the Porto Novo City Hall, the Environment Fund and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
