Porto Novo Show Proceeds Aid Parish Church Construction

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The proceeds from the musical performance held this Saturday, which opened the celebrations for the 42nd anniversary of the creation of the Juventude em Marcha theatre company, will be donated to the Catholic Church for the construction of the new church in Porto Novo.

The leader of Juventude em Marcha, Jorge Martins, confirmed to Inforpress that the proceeds from the show, which featured singers Constantino Cardoso and Beto Alves, and violinist Shauntel Baumgard, will go towards the construction of the new parish church in the city of Porto Novo.

The Juventude em Marcha company, which is one of the goodwill ambassadors for the new parish church in Porto Novo, has been supporting the Catholic Church in the construction of this religious space, whose works, launched in June 2024, are currently halted.

A source connected to the project says that the Catholic Church is in a position to resume the works, which are already in the roofing phase, and is awaiting a technical assessment for this purpose.

The Parish of St. John the Baptist has been carrying out a series of fundraising activities for the construction of the new church, which will have a capacity to seat 700 people.

The parish priest of St. John the Baptist, José Pires, has been asking for a “djunta mon” (joining of hands) from parishioners and emigrants for the construction of the new church.
