Africa-Press – Cape verde. Correios Cabo Verde (CCV) announced that, starting this Friday, August 29, the service for accepting and shipping items containing merchandise and merchandise samples with a commercial value exceeding $100 to the United States (USA) will be temporarily suspended, following the discontinuation of the De Minimis regime (“the law does not deal with minimal things”) for the USA.
According to the statement, the changes to US Executive Order #14324 mean that, for all goods imported into the USA, duties must be paid to US Customs, regardless of the country of origin.
Despite the suspension, the exemption from customs duties for non-commercial parcels (low-value private shipments, so-called “Gifts”) valued up to $100 remains in effect, provided that the rules and procedures established by Customs and Border Protection (CBP) are followed.
The aforementioned source clarifies that the contents of these accepted items must originate from Cape Verde, otherwise they may be subject to duties arising from the executive order applied to other countries, depending on the origin of the merchandise sent. Documents such as letters and worthless goods can be sent normally, as before, to the US.
The CCV pointed out, however, that critical issues, such as the implementation of customs duty collection processes, the data to be collected, and the interaction with US Customs and Border Protection, are still not clearly defined.
Furthermore, since the details of who will pay the duties and how have not been clarified, no IT solutions have been developed for postal companies to use.
