Africa-Press – Cape verde. The newly created Association of the Cape Verdean Mother Language (ALMA-CV) will hold a Mother Language Fair on Monday, 18th, with various cultural and recreational activities to promote the Cape Verdean language, in Pracinha da Escola Grande, Plateau, city of Praia.
In an interview with A Nação, the vice-president-elect of the Board of Directors of ALMA-CV, Ana Karina Moreira said that this Fair, from 10 am to 5 pm, intends to be an event open to the general public to make known in a scientific way, but also playful, the mother tongue and initiatives related to its valorization.
The event as part of the International Mother Language Day, celebrated on the 21st of February, includes in its program a gymkhana entitled “Vólta Kauberdi”, in addition to the moment “pa nu prendi nos lingua”, cachopada. Fair and book presentation among other cultural activities that show the diversity of Cape Verde.
Celebrate the day with knowledge sharing
Karina Moreira, the focal point of the activities, guarantees that it will be a day of promotion and sharing of knowledge about the Cape Verdean language, celebrating the ephemeris under its aim of “valuing what is ours”.
This is within ALMA’s mission, specifically “to contribute to the implementation of an explicit, organized and planned language policy, consistent with the sociolinguistic situation in Cape Verde and with human rights of a linguistic nature, linguistic science and didactics of languages, the current world educational agenda and the linguistic practice of Cape Verdean citizens”, according to its Article 3 – Mission.
It should be recalled that International Mother Language Day was established in 1999, at the 30th General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and recognized by the UN through Resolution 56/262 of the National Assembly General, on February 15, 2002.
