Praia City: Associação Acarinhar holds a Christmas gathering with the delivery of 50 basic food baskets and gifts to children

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Association of Families and Friends of Children with Cerebral Palsy (Acarinhar) will deliver 50 basic food baskets and gifts to children and young people this Thursday, 21st, as part of the Christmas festive season. The president of Acarinhar, Teresa Mascarenhas, said that the Christmas gathering is aimed at children and young people in the municipalities of Praia, São Domingos, Ribeira Grande de Santiago and São Salvador do Mundo.

“These are cultural activities and moments of conviviality, in which families will be free to express and exchange experiences with other families from other municipalities and communities” stated the same source.

Mascarenhas also added that the association has been carrying out home visits to bedridden children and young people, with more “movement difficulties”, an initiative that, according to her, started during this festive season and will continue after Christmas.

“We went to the municipality of Calheta de São Miguel these days, but from Thursday we will continue home visits in the city of Praia, delivering basic food baskets to families and gifts to children”, he informed.

He regretted the fact that during these visits he saw families with “a lot of difficulties” in terms of housing, finances and a lack of support materials.

“These are children and young people who need special care, and with the increase in products, the lives of these families have become more complicated. So on these visits we bring words of comfort, basic food baskets to families and gifts for children to help them feel the spirit of Christmas,” she explained.

According to Teresa Mascarenhas, Associação Acarinhar has been receiving requests for support daily, mainly for the purchase of diapers and wheelchairs, adding that, as they are “expensive materials”, families often do not have the financial means.

“When there is an activity there is difficulty in getting around, because many of these children do not have wheelchairs, so we have problems with transport to pick them up at home. These are a series of challenges that we have been facing throughout our existence”, stated the president of the Association of Families and Friends of Children with Cerebral Palsy.

Today there will be cultural activities with children from Santa Cruz, in partnership with the local authority.
