Praia City Council Expands Scholarships for Azores Students

Africa-Press – Cape verde. The Praia City Hall has increased the number of scholarships awarded to the Azores from 12 to 19, benefiting more students from the capital this year under the partnership agreement signed with several Azorean schools.

According to information released by the city hall, the students will receive a full scholarship that covers all costs for tuition, lodging, meals, transportation, school supplies, and travel.

The first group of 11 young people departed on Thursday, the 2nd, for São Miguel Island, where they will begin their professional training at various institutions, namely the Vila Franca do Campo Vocational School (EPVFC), the Ribeira Grande Vocational School (EPRG), and the Ponta Delgada Chamber of Commerce and Industry Vocational School (EPCCIPD).

Upon arrival in the Azores, the students were welcomed by Cape Verdean emigrant and businessman Paulo Mendes, who lives in the region.

The remaining nine scholarship recipients are expected to travel in the coming days, heading to the Azores Qualification Center in Capelas and the Ponta Delgada School of Tourism and Hotel Training, where they will begin their professional training.

The Praia City Hall noted that this program was implemented last year with the awarding of the first 12 scholarships, allowing the young people to continue their studies at the Praia da Vitória Vocational School on Terceira Island.

According to the city hall, this initiative reflects the “commitment of the current municipal team to promoting the education, training, and qualifications of young people in Praia, reinforcing support for families and investing in the future of the municipality.”
