Africa-Press – Cape verde. This Monday, 11th, the workshop on the “UNESCO Convention (2005) on Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions” starts in Praia.

The event organized by the Cape Verde National Commission for UNESCO (CNU), in partnership with the UNESCO Dakar Regional Office, runs until Thursday, 14th, in one of the hotels in the capital.

According to a press release from the Ministry of Culture and Creative Industries (MCIC), this workshop, aimed at government institutions, academia and civil society organizations, aims to provide this target audience with “an overview of the objectives, themes and key concepts of the Convention, on current challenges, to make known the instruments and mechanisms under the Convention”.

This, in addition to raising awareness of the 2005 Convention, its guiding principles and its main lines of action.

The opening of the event at 9 am this Monday, 11, at Hotel Pérola, will be chaired by the Minister of Culture and Creative Industries and president of the Cape Verde National Commission for UNESCO (CNU), Abraão Vicente.

Rectification of the Convention in Cape Verde (2021)

It is recalled that, in October 2005, the General Conference of UNESCO adopted the Convention for the Protection and Promotion of the Diversity of Cultural Expressions.

This legal instrument was ratified by Cape Verde in 2021, primarily in the diversity of cultural expressions put into circulation and shared through cultural activities, goods and services and in the context of the celebration of the World Day for Cultural Diversity, marked on 21 May.
