The City of Praia will host, on Saturday the 3rd and Sunday the 4th, the X National Paralympic Championship in which approximately 100 disabled athletes from different sporting regions of the country will participate. This competition is organized by the Cape Verdean Adapted Sports Federation (FECADA) in partnership with the Cape Verde Paralympic Committee and Special Olympics Cape Verde. The championship takes place under the motto “United by sport for the inclusion mission” and will be disputed in the 100 and 200 meters race, Special Olympics 100 meters race, throwing competitions, unified games and weightlifting. The competitions will be held on the athletics track of the Adega Sports Complex, in Achada Grande Trás and at the Vává Duarte sports pavilion in Cidade da Praia. the event is part of Fecada’s annual activities.
Exchange and means of inclusion of athletes
According to FECADA, the championship’s main objectives are the sports exchange between athletes with disabilities in the country as a means of inclusion in society and select the athletes who will represent Cape Verde in the next international competitions. The event, guarantees the organization, represents an important moment for national sport due to the inherent social impact and, above all, for being the first major competition event for athletes with disabilities, after the interregnum caused by the covid-19 pandemic.
