Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, appointed, this morning, from the People’s Palace, in São Vicente, five new members of the Council of the Republic (CR), to exercise functions in the current mandate.
There are four women and one man, the new nominees for the CR, namely Eneida Cristina Lima Costa, Gabriel António Monteiro Fernandes, Maria Ilena Rocha, Vera Helena Pires Almeida da Cruz and Zenaida Baptista Costa.
This gender difference in the appointment of new members, coming from civil society, is due to the fact that, by virtue of their functions, all the remaining members of the auxiliary body are men, as justified by the President of the Republic.
They are the president of the National Assembly, the prime minister, the president of the Constitutional Court, the Ombudsman, the president of the Economic, Social and Environmental Council, in addition to the former heads of state.

Their terms of office end with the end of the President of the Republic’s office.
