Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, will participate, between the 18th and 19th of this month, in the 36th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the African Union to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
According to a press release from the Presidency, on the agenda of the meeting are matters of paramount importance for the archipelago, namely food security, climate change and Energy Policy in Africa, and the African Continental Free Trade Area.
During the meeting, the report on the institutional reform of the AU, the report of the Peace and Security Council on the implementation of the main road map of practical measures to silence the guns in Africa and on political governance, financial and global energy policy, in addition to of the report on the world food crisis.
Extraordinary Conference of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government
On the sidelines of the Summit, the Head of State will participate in an Extraordinary Conference of ECOWAS Heads of State and Government, on February 18, which will have as its main objective to discuss the political transition processes in Guinea-Conakry, Mali and Burkina Faso, countries that were suspended from the organization after the military coups in 2020, 2021 and 2022.
Second Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Climate Commission for the Sahel Region
But first, on the 17th, the Conference of Heads of State and Government of the Climate Commission for the Sahel Region will take place, where the operationalization of the Executive Secretariat and the Climate Fund for the Sahel will be discussed.
At that time, the new Executive Secretary of the said Committee should be appointed.
And for the 19th, José Maria Neves will also participate in the high-level event under the motto “Creating an impetus for the recovery of routine immunization in Africa”, at the invitation of his counterpart in Sierra Leone, the director of WHO for Africa and African Union Commissioner for Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development.
Also during his stay in Addis Ababa, the head of state will receive representatives of some institutions in audience.
