Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic, José Maria Neves, promotes volunteering for environmental preservation tomorrow, in Tarrafal de Santiago, as part of the closing of the Year of the Mountains declared by him in April, in Cova, Santo Antão.
Designed with the aim of making the country aware of the need to protect biodiversity and promote the well-being and sustainability of mountain communities, the proclamation of the Year of the Mountains resulted from the initiative of the United Nations Organization, which, in December of last year, proclaimed 2022 as the International Year for the Sustainable Development of Mountains.
According to a Presidential press release sent to Inforpress, the municipality of Tarrafal de Santiago is the stage chosen to receive, this Saturday, the activities that encompass a series of achievements carried out by the Presidency of the Republic, from April to this part, under the motto “Together for the reconstruction of a greener, more resilient and more inclusive future!”.
The actions, which will feature the FAO representative in Cape Verde, Ana Touza, include, during the morning period, a tree planting campaign in the Vila de Mangue, an Open Conversation with young people about the Role of Volunteering in Environmental Preservation and a cleaning campaign on the beaches and underwater (upper sea and lower sea).
