Africa-Press – Cape verde. The President of the Republic gave a “positive assessment” of his presidency in Santiago Norte, emphasizing that the region is experiencing a crucial moment in its development and advocating for the strengthening of resources and competencies of the municipalities.

In statements to the press quoted by Inforpress, at the closing of the initiative in São Lourenço dos Órgãos, José Maria Neves highlighted “the positive impact” of democratic local government, underlining that all municipalities in the region show “significant progress since its establishment”.

For José Maria Neves, it is necessary to provide municipalities and islands with more resources and decision-making power, promoting “positive discrimination” for landlocked municipalities, such as São Lourenço dos Órgãos and São Salvador do Mundo, and strengthening support for the growth of the local economy.

The President also pointed to the mobilization of private investments, the involvement of the diaspora in strengthening the business fabric, and the enhancement of Santiago Norte’s potential in the areas of agribusiness, ecotourism, blue economy, rural tourism, and creative industries as priorities. According to the same source, during his presidential week, José Maria Neves met with representatives from various sectors and social segments, identifying the need to improve access to financing for small businesses and to promote the planning and management of the coastal zone through closer dialogue between the Government and local authorities.

Regarding the absence of Santa Catarina from the presidential program, the Head of State explained that the situation was due to the unavailability of the mayor, adding that a specific visit to the municipality will be scheduled to fill this gap.
